WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT

FAST FACTS:

  • Shaving will NOT make hairs grow back darker, thicker nor would it change the growth rate.
  • Shaving is like giving your hairs a haircut, therefore it is impossible to change the actual chemist of your follicle.
  • Most people would need 3 – 8 treatments.
  • The Food and Drug Administration approved it for “permanent hair reduction.”
  • The laser hair removal objective is to “toast the hair follicles without damaging the skin.”
  • The thickness and colour of your skin has a lot to do with which lasers can be used and how successful it will be.

  • Blonde, white, and red hair is the toughest to remove, but it is possible! There is NEW technology out there that could successfully treat these hair types.

  • You should wait 1-2 months after waxing before any laser treatment. The laser needs hair to work on.

HOW LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORKS:
The objective of laser hair removal is to “toast the hair follicles without damaging the skin.” A laser is effective because the laser ONLY locks onto the hair-shaft and travel down, and damage the follicle. The following things could happen to your follicles after one treatment:

- If the follicle is completely damaged, it will never produce hair.
- If the follicle is partially damaged, it will produce lighter and thinner hair.

The level of damage to the follicles is strictly depending on the hair growth cycle of each hair. Anagen is the growth phase, where it is still strongly attach to the skin. Around 10%-20% of your hairs are in this phase, it is also the best time to receive laser treatment. Catagen and Telogen are the following phases, when you receive laser treatment at these phases lower amount of damage can be done to the follicles.

FACTORS THAT COULD AFFECT THE RESULTS:

- Not following the treatment schedule advised by the Laser technician. For face area it would be 4-6 weeks interval between treatments. For body is 6-8 weeks interval between treatments. Based on you growth cycle, your Laser technician would know when is the best time for you to come in for each treatment.
- Blonde, red, and white hairs (they would typically need more treatments than average.)
- Hormonal changes or imbalance.
- Waxing, sugaring or plucking during treatments. As the hair shaft is our target, if you pull out the hair shafts there will be no target for the laser. The best way to remove hair before and between laser treatments is to shave the hair off, bleach the hair, or use depilatory creams.
- Have excessive tan. Different setting is use for darker skin type.

Laser hair removal has become extremely popular because of its speed and effectiveness. Most of the time, the effectiveness is dependent upon the skill, and experience of the Laser technician and the choice of laser technology at the clinic.
